Ports are places where the transfer to and from ships is possible. Often, industry is the reason for constructing a port. A port can be a quay along a canal or river, but it can also be an extensive network of ports along a harbor canal. There are also short side canals from a main canal to a port that might be located near a city or a large industrial area, for example.
